Job Description

Animal Care Specialist (ACS)

SPCA Westchester is looking for compassionate, dependable, and animal-loving people to join our Animal Care team!

If you enjoy working with animals, staying active, engaging with the public and making a difference every day, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. As an Animal Care Specialist (ACS), you will play an important role in helping the animals in our Rescue Center feel safe, comfortable, healthy, and ready for their next chapter.

About the Role

Animal Care Specialists provide the daily care and attention our animals need while they are with us. This is a hands-on, active position. You'll spend your day caring for dogs and cats, providing enrichment and exercise, keeping their spaces clean and comfortable, and helping create positive experiences for both animals and the people who visit them.

The ACS team also plays an important role in helping animals find their forever homes. They engage with visitors and prospective adopters, learn about their needs and lifestyles, provide information about individual animals, and help facilitate thoughtful adoption matches and counseling conversations.

This is a physically active position that involves being on your feet, moving throughout the Rescue Center, and performing regular cleaning and animal-care tasks throughout the day. If you enjoy staying busy and working directly with animals, you'll feel right at home on our team.

What You'll Do
  • Provide compassionate daily care to dogs and cats, including feeding, watering and general husbandry.
  • Get to know our animals and help connect them with potential adopters through our matchmaking process.
  • Provide friendly and welcoming interactions with adopters and members of the public.
  • Observe animals closely and communicate any changes in behavior, health, or overall well-being.
  • Create a safe, clean, and comfortable environment by maintaining animal rooms, kennels, and cages throughout the day.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Animal Care team to ensure our animals receive consistent, high-quality care.
  • Pitch in wherever needed to support the animals and the Rescue Center.

What Makes This Job Special

At SPCA Westchester, our Animal Care Specialists are an important part of an animal's journey. You'll have the opportunity to build relationships with animals, learn their individual personalities, watch them grow and gain confidence, and know that the care you provide can truly change a life and help them find their forever homes.

If you're compassionate, hardworking, comfortable engaging with the public and excited to make a difference for animals every day, we encourage you to apply!
