Role: Patent Attorney

Location: Washington, DC

A growing intellectual property law firm is seeking a Patent Attorney with a Ph.D. to join its sophisticated Life Sciences & Chemistry practice. This role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys complex science, wants meaningful responsibility, and is motivated to build strong technical and legal expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
\n
• Handle patent matters involving biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, chemistry, and related life sciences technologies.
\n
• Analyze complex scientific and technical subject matter and translate it into effective patent strategies.
\n
• Work with inventors and clients to develop and protect intellectual property.
\n
• Conduct patentability and related technical/legal analyses.
\n
• Draft and respond to Office Actions and other USPTO correspondence.
\n
• Take increasing ownership of client matters as your experience and judgment develop.
\n

Qualifications:

\n
• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related life sciences discipline.
\n
• J.D. from an accredited law school.
\n
• Active USPTO registration.
\n
• Active U.S. state bar membership.
\n
• Minimum 1 years of substantive patent prosecution experience.
\n
• Strong scientific, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
\n
• Ability to manage multiple matters while maintaining high-quality work.
